GLAZERITE EAST CELEBRATES A YEAR OF INTEGRATION – AT LAST!

Tags: Glazerite   |   Added:

The small matter of a long overdue high-speed broadband installation may be seen by some as the conclusion of a year-long transformation of the former City Beads Halo fabricator into part of The Glazerite UK Group but in many ways, it was more like the beginning.

“Up to then, everything had been paper-based for the 32 years of our existence,” Mark Smith, former MD of the Peterborough company and now director designate of the new division, Glazerite East, explained: “Only when that changed could we really begin to move forward. It was an immensely frustrating time for all but the progress since then has been massive.”

Of course, Glazerite was progressing the transformation on many other fronts during the wait, not least in machinery upgrades, and over £125,000 was spent on new quad and crucifix welders from Winmac as soon as the ink was dry on the acquisition deal. Beyond that, another £50,000 went on bringing the IT in line with the existing Glazerite systems and more was spent on signage, vehicle livery and new windows and doors to bring the site inline with the new group brand.

Group Director Jason Thompson said the lack of broadband strength, and the delay in the provider remedying the problem were a major setback: “This meant we were not able to introduce our Evonet management and other systems for the better part of a year. However, we made the best use of that time, not only implementing the ‘hard’ changes like upgrading the building and machinery, but also introducing the Glazerite culture among the workforce.

“We began with familiarising all the staff with Glazerite and assuring them of our long-term commitment to the business as well as outlining our short and medium term plans. We have also been able to improve both their working conditions and terms of employment. The other side of the equation is of course the existing customer base and, even before the IT issue was solved, the feedback from them was very encouraging and has gone on getting better since then.”

Now, just as at Glazerite’s other production sites, everything is bar-coded across the whole of production and dispatch so that, along with Evonet, there is full transparency and accountability throughout.

Mark Smith continued: “Now that all the systems are in place, we and our customers are beginning to see the real benefits of the acquisition. Lead times have been brought down in line with the rest of the group, full online quoting and ordering is available to all customers and, most importantly, they all have full access to one of the most comprehensive product ranges in the industry, all via this one single point of contact.  Not to mention the great marketing support that is now available to our installers, being part of the group really does open up so many opportunities to our installers ”

This means the former City Beads customers can now not only offer the full range of mainstream VEKA systems but also its sliding sash and Imagine bi-fold, patio and flush doors, Warmcore windows and bi-folds and all Residence9 and Solidor products. By the same token the rest of the group now has access to the Halo range from Glazerite East’s ongoing operation. Another benefit for Peterboroughcustomers however is that, whether they are working with mainstream VEKA or Halo systems, they can apply to become part of the Independent Network (formerly known as Network VEKA) via Glazerite’s long-standing relationship with the organisation.

Mark Smith concluded: “We see a great future as part of the Glazerite UK Group. The company has already shown that it is prepared to invest time, money and commitment into bringing this new division into line with the standards set by the rest of the group, and we can see that what has happened so far is only the beginning.”

Glazerite customer completes Mill renovation for University
K2 Aluminium Systems, an installer of the Glazerite UK Group recently completed a redevelopment project in Halifax for Leeds Beckett University Business Centre. The project consisted of 125 windows as part of the larger multi-million pound transformation programme on the old weaving mill located on Horton Street in Halifax. The architectural aluminium specialist installed VEKA's M70 frames in grey, which were manufactured by Glazerite's Bolton Division. Sales Manager for Glazerite, Pete Smith explains:  "The Matrix 70 system, characterised by its 5 chambers and clean chamfered lines, provides a modern, energy efficient solution that looks equally at home when used for new build projects or refurbishment projects such as this one. The required styles looked complex in design but were easy to manufacture thanks to our state-of-the-art multi-headed welding and cleaning facilities.  K2 needed a quick turnaround to fulfil their tight fitting schedule, installed a floor per week to meet the completion deadline, and our nationwide coverage meant we could deliver as and when required. The frames themselves were matched to the original timber window style to keep in touch with its period facade, and this project is another great example of thermally efficient, modern materials being used to allow a historic building to live on for many years to come." As part of its partnership with Calderdale Council, Leeds Beckett University is launching a new initiative to drive growth amongst early-stage and growing businesses. The University Business Centre will be based at Piece Mill in Halifax next to historic Piece Hall and will re-open later this year. Piece Mill is an impressive converted mill providing open plan, affordable office and meeting space plus a range of business support in the centre of Halifax. The centre is part of a network of Leeds Beckett University Business Centres that have been operating for more than 15 years. Over 200 businesses across the region are currently located in Leeds Beckett's private, shared and co-working spaces which to date have supported over 800 businesses to accelerate their growth. Support from Leeds Beckett has been proven to almost double business sustainability, with a 95% business survival rate in the first year of trading. Glazerite makes it a hat-trick with a Flush Sash for every budget
The Glazerite UK Group has become one of the very few fabricators to offer a choice of three flush sash systems, with the addition of the acclaimed Residence 7 system from the Residence Collection alongside its existing Residence 9 and Halo flush sash choices. The R7 is more than just a price-competitive companion to the original and well-established R9 - its slimmer 75mm front-to-back profile means it is quicker means it is quicker and easier to install in most retrofit settings without having to cut back the plaster. The slimmed-down size doesn't mean compromising on thermal, acoustic and security spec however, with its seven-chamber construction more than matching rival systems and achieving WER up to A+ and a Passivhaus-standard U-Value of 0.8 W/m²K. "Reaction to our R9 and Halo flush sashes has been phenomenal," said Group Director Jason Thompson, "Demand from homeowners, commercial and new-build customers has continued to grow with two of the best products to respond to that demand. Now with the addition of Residence 7, we can offer three specific price points in this vibrant and still-growing sector so that our installers have a flush sash solution, whatever the job and budget" Glazerite is not only one of very few national fabricators to offer three flush sash options but is believed to be the only one with the R9, R7 and Halo variants. The R7 flush sash from Glazerite is available in a palette of 14 colours as well as five separate bead options - 28mm Decorative, Staff and Square and 44mm Decorative and Square. Frames can also be supplied unglazed to give installers more glazing choices as well as ease of transportation. The Glazerite UK Group is one of VEKA's leading trade fabricators in the UK and a long-standing Network VEKA and Independent Network member. It offers a fully nationwide service based on manufacturing units in Northants, Peterborough and Greater Manchester. South Wales and the West of England are served through the South West distribution hub in Bristol.

Thistle supports customer with rare condition with Solidor installation
The Glazerite UK Group and their installer partner Thistle Windows and Conservatories were pleased to install a Solidor composite door recently, after being contacted by a customer who suffers from a very rare neuromuscular condition. Shanice Robertson of Aberdeen has a condition called SMARD (Spinal Muscular Dystrophy with respiratory distress) which affects the use of all her muscles and means that she requires the use of a wheelchair at all times. Shanice is the oldest known living female with the condition and there are only 80 other known cases of it around the world. Despite the challenges she faces, Shanice has been highly involved in promoting awareness of SMARD and meeting & supporting others with the condition. Having recently purchased their own bungalow, Shanice and her partner contacted Thistle about help with adapting the property to suit her needs, which included updating the bathroom and installing ramps to help Shanice access and live in the property with ease. Shanice explains: “I also find it difficult to operate a standard door handle, so I needed a door with an electric lock so that I can access it without having to pull up/down on handles.” Jason Thompson, Director of the Glazerite UK Group says; “When Thistle found out about Shanice’s circumstances they promised to do everything they could to support her with the very necessary changes to her property.  After talking with Andy Cadman, Thistle’s Trade Sales Director, together we identified that a Solidor composite door would be perfect for Shanice’s requirements, due to its auto-locking and high-spec features.  Solidor kindly provided the slab and Thistle, with the support of Independent Network (VEKA), were able to install the door.  Working together, we were able to provide this installation for Shanice free of charge.” Shanice is delighted with the results and the generosity shown by all those that were involved in the process.  For more information about Thistle Windows and Conservatories, who recently won the ‘Conservatory Installer of the Year’ Award at the G17 Awards, visit www.thistlewindows.com or call 01224 706555 for more information.  Glazerite is VEKA’s largest trade fabricator in the UK and offers a fully nationwide service based on manufacturing units in Northants, Peterborough and Greater Manchester and a distribution hub in Bristol.
