What does your job inolve?

I'm solely responsible for all glass ordering/panel ordering, helps with weekly stock orders including consignment stock replenishment and day to day suppliers. Responsible for all NW TNTs and compiling the monthly ncr quality meeting reports and provides support to the purchasing manager to ensure the efficient running of the department. Is an integral part of the team

What are you Studying

I've complete NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration and now working through business administration level 3.

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

After leaving school I didn't feel the pull towards the college route and wanted to be in work at a young age to earn money and develop within a company.

What have you gained in doing the apprenticeship? 

Spending the last couple of years immersed in a business environment has had a direct contribution on my confidence, phone manner, interactions with peers and suppliers and help round him as an individual. Besides the job specific skills i've acquired I now have a whole set of transferrable skills to progress my carreer in many areas or industries.  I'm learning, earning and gaining experience.

As a manager (Paul Maddern), what developments and changes have you seen from Oliver?

Oliver was Young person of the year award winner at the NFA 16 of which I am immensely proud. From day 1 I recognised an obvious talent in Oliver and he has not disappointed. He continues to excel, is an expert in his role and learns new tasks with ease. He gets on with all of his peers who hold him in high esteem and is an eminently likeable character. The main change is his self-confidence. Seeing the development over the past year or two has been nothing short of phenomenal and I am under no illusion he will go on to succeed at whatever he chooses to do. An asset to the company.  The value of starting at such a young age cannot be underestimated and really gives him the platform to build a very successful career.

K2 and Glazerite refit is top of the class
When teachers at a Cheshire primary school were unable to use their recently installed windows, K2 Aluminium Systems and their VEKA fabricator partner, the Glazerite UK Group Ltd, came to the rescue, replacing them and making them fit for use. Though VEKA profiles had been specified for the original install, the contractor had instead used another system. This had resulted in bowed sashes and inoperative windows, as well as window screen walling which shook when pressed. As one of the North West’s leading commercial installers, Wirral-based K2 has worked extensively on new build and replacement projects, ranging from retail units and offices to schools and hospitals. Having fitted another local primary with a similar specification, contractors called on them to refit the Winsford-based school, this time using the trusted VEKA product. Together with leading VEKA fabricator Glazerite, K2 attended the school to find out what problems they were having and what was required to put the job right. Liam Bird, Commercial Manager for K2, explains: “Once we’d carried out our onsite survey, it was obvious the windows used in the install were so badly bowed they wouldn’t close, and the window system had no reinforcement in them at all. “ We made the correct calculations around wind loads, checked the dimensions, and, in line with VEKA and Glazerite’s technical expertise, we made the changes necessary to ensure the new install worked how it should and would perform for years to come.” Over a three-week period in the summer of 2018, K2 installed 47 VEKA M70 frames in non-grained Grey, alongside matching commercial-grade aluminium doors. Glazerite’s Sales Manager, Peter Smith, says: “The windows we fabricated for K2 were fully steel reinforced. The window screens were also coupled together with suitable frame connectors with the correct ‘EI value’, in order to withstand the calculated forces.” He adds: “VEKA’s technical expertise is second to none and K2’s installations are always exceptional. As a fabricator, we don’t cut corners, and together with K2 and VEKA, we ensured that the school got the correct products, which were well made and installed professionally and efficiently.” Peter adds: “The uPVC waste from the original job was also managed efficiently with the frames being taken by VEKA Recycling to their facility in Wellingborough. There, waste products are sorted and granulated for reuse in new windows and other uPVC products.”

Glazerite’s investment goes North
The Glazerite UK Group Ltd has announced plans to invest in excess of £1m across its plants this year, in order to improve performance and capability across the business. The investment programme will see the VEKA fabricator further enhance its offering for installers, and signals Glazerite’s strong commitment to the industry, as it approaches its 20th year in business. The first step in the programme includes a new Stuga machine, which has recently been installed at Glazerite Northwest.  The Stuga ZX5 automatic sawing and machining centre forms part of a major transformation of the Bolton-based plant, which will also see the site double in size by early 2020. Ian Lloyd, Glazerite’s Operations Director, says of the new machine: “The Stuga ZX5 is reliable, easy to use, and better still, it has a speedier and smoother throughput, which will really make a difference for us and our customers.”   In addition to the new machine, Glazerite Northwest has also welcomed a new inline welder. The Haffner SMR 5 head welding machine boasts increased frame output and a touch screen operation for a fast and effective performance, and is yielding such impressive results that the fabricator has ordered two more of the machines for its East and Midlands plants With Glazerite Northwest due to complete ambitious expansion plans by the start of 2020, it’s hoped Glazerite installers will also benefit from the addition of a showroom, which will highlight the broad range of products Glazerite offers to its customers. Jason Thompson, Group Managing Director for Glazerite, explains the reasons for the investment: “We are committed to continual investment in our plants so that we can service our customers with one of the broadest product ranges on the market. An increase in our capacity and improved capabilities enables us to become more versatile and flexible in how we manufacture products across each of our sites. ‘With new machinery making us ever more efficient, we are in a great position to continue servicing our customers, but also to drive forward with our ambitious growth plans into 2020 and beyond.”

R9 just the job for Wiltshire home
Wiltshire-based SJ Window Installations has recently completed a domestic project using Residence 9 windows and French doors manufactured by The Glazerite UK Group Ltd to create a truly stunning transformation.   The homeowner specified Clotted Cream on the exterior combined with a White Ash interior, the installation matched an existing R9 window fitted in a previous extension on the property, which is situated in the Wiltshire village of Little Somerford. A total of nine windows and a pair of French doors were installed over five days by Simon Jordan, owner of SJ Window Installations, who was carrying out his first ever Residence Collection project. He says: “This was the first time I’ve installed Residence 9 though I’ve used the Halo FlushSash in a number of properties of late. Both are great systems and alongside the R7 - which I also have access to via Glazerite - I have a number of flush sash solutions for customers, whatever their needs or budget.” Simon adds: “The marketing done by Residence Collection in support of both R9 and R7 is impressive, and this particular customer found me via the installer search on their website, which is fantastic.”
