Celebrating our 20th year in business

Tags:   |   Added:

It’s hard to believe that just two decades ago, WIFI and Google were in their infancy, and we managed to somehow get through the day without smartphones, social media or Netflix. Britney was on the radio, England failed to make it out of the group stages at the Euros, Big Brother arrived on Channel 4, and we’d survived the Millennium Bug.

The year 2000 was also the year John Hewitt and Jason Thompson founded Glazerite from a 1000 sq. ft factory in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. They had just four members of staff and one product – the VEKA Matrix 58mm – and a target of 40 frames per week.

VEKA has been with Glazerite since the beginning with the company now growing into one of their largest customers. VEKA MD, Dave Jones, has worked closely with Jason and John from the very start. He believes the relationship between the supplier and fabricator has been built on a ‘mutually successful, open and honest partnership.’

Dave says: “Together, VEKA and Glazerite deliver the best possible products and services, and have continued to do so, even during tough times in the industry. We have always stood and worked together, and we’re both stronger for it.”

Today, Glazerite employs over 270 staff who each strive to make us a ‘best-in-class’ supplier for our installer partners. Our product range has evolved into one of the most comprehensive in the industry and from humble beginnings and 40 frames in 2000, we now have a capacity to manufacture in excess of 4000 frames per week.

2020 will also see the full effects of the £1 million investment we poured into the business last year, with improved efficiencies and capacity at our Northwest division thanks to the expansion of our Bolton site, and broader reach thanks to new vehicles in our delivery fleet.

So what will 2020 be remembered for? Definitely Brexit, and hopefully a better performance at the Euros. For Glazerite though, we intend to make it the beginning of another two decades of growth, cementing our position as the fabricator of choice and continuing on in our mission to help our installer partners achieve their own business goals.

On 29th February, we will be marking our 20 years in business by holding an event at Sywell Aerodrome for all staff members. This will be in recognition of all employees hard work and dedication in helping the business reach this impressive milestone.

Engaging with customers during the pandemic
We are not manufacturing at present, but we still have a core team available to help and support you where needed.   With homeowners spending so much time indoors many are thinking about their next home improvement projects.    Whilst you can't visit them and do a physical survey, there is no reason why they can't send you pictures and sizes of their windows and doors to give them a guide on pricing for the works they need. Keep the flow of communication going with your customers, just a few simple steps: 1. Engage with your audiences on social - This is a perfect time to remind your customers what you offer and the improvements they can make to their home.  We will be sending Glazerite installers' social assets to use in the next few days. 2. Send homeowner general info  - A link to your website and any relevant brochures for the products they are interested in.  Our retail brochures are a good starting point. DOWNLOAD NOW. If you don't have a website point them to our homeowner site for now and drop us a note to [email protected] - we'll send any enquiries/queries through to you.  But talk to us about creating your own branded website going forward. 3. Collect the info you need - Ask the homeowner to take pictures and send sizes to you, describing any requirements in the products.   4.  Quote for the work  - You can either use your online ordering system (Sat16) or our order processing team [email protected], as usual, to quote for any works. 5.  Send the quote - Once finalised send the quote to the customer with any relevant paperwork.  Don't forget to remind them this is an approximate quote and will be subject to a full survey once things are back to normal.  But it gives them an idea of the cost in the meantime.          Once we are back to some normality if the customer would like to take the quote further, you can arrange a full survey and final quotation.

Long Service Employees recognised at Glazerite 20th anniversary bash
This year we are delighted to be celebrating 20 years since the Glazerite Group was founded by Group Chairman John Hewitt and Managing Director, Jason Thompson. Fast forward to today and Glazerite now employ over 270 members of staff, who each strive to help make us the 'best in class' supplier for our installer partners.  On 29th February we organised an event for all staff and their partners to join us in honoring reaching this impressive milestone, which couldn't have been achieved without the hard work and dedication of our employees.  Our 20th Anniversary party was held at Sywell Aerodrome in the popular 20's style venue, just 10 minutes up the road from our Head Office in Wellingborough. The evening was enjoyed by all who attended, with the night consisting of a live band, casino, caricaturist and even a Krispy Kreme tower!  As a token of our appreciation for dedicated employees, we commemorated anybody that has been with Glazerite 15 years of longer, with an award presented by Directors of the Company. Along with the award, they were also given a £100 red letter day experience and a bottle of champagne to enjoy (many of which didn't make it home and were consumed throughout the night!)  Those presented with Long Service awards were: Stephen Carr - 17 Years Paul Canfield - 15 Years Gary Craddock - 15 Years Melvyn Farr - 19 Years Clive Hampton - 19 Years Lee Mayes - 15 Years Martyn Peck - 15 Years Jim Preston - 15 Years Neil Ransom - 15 Years Lucy Thorneycroft - 15 Years James Westley - 19 Years Marc Wilson - 19 Years Paul Wright - 15 Years As we now look ahead to the rest of 2020, plans to develop areas of the business are continuing, with the completion of our North West division expansion, along with offering a broader nationwide reach thanks to new vehicles added to our delivery fleet.
