We’re thrilled to share the amazing journey of Lindsay-Anne Straughton, who recently completed the LakesMan Half with remarkable success. Alongside Taylors Joinery & Plastics, we are proud to sponsor her sporting journey and we wish Lindsay all the best as she continues to achieve success!
Lindsay began running in 2014 when a friend asked her to do an obstacle race with her; and what began as a goal of 10k, quickly become a half marathon which then led to her completing the London Marathon in 2016.
Her triathlon journey began in 2018 when she entered the LakesMan Half – at this point she had never done a triathlon, never swam in open water and didn’t even own a road bike!
Lindsay says, “Needless to say, it did not go well! I was confident that I could swim the distance, ride the distance and run the distance… what I hadn’t realised was how much preparation goes into the ‘other stuff’."
She completed the swim and bike section in 5 hours 10 minutes, and then was sadly told that she had missed the cut off time to start the running section – so, unfortunately, her race was over.
But Lindsay didn’t give up, in fact she re-entered for the 2020 race (which soon got postponed until 2021 because of the covid-19 lockdown).
However, during this time she worked on all the obstacles she had fought in her first race – she taught herself to swim front crawl; she spent the entire summer swimming in local lakes; and she even signed up with a qualified triathlon coach who helped her with training and nutrition.
Lindsay went on to complete the triathlon in an incredible 6 hours and 3 minutes!
In 2022, she then went onto to complete her first long distance triathlon, the LakesMan Full (which is the same distance as an IronMan), where she finished 6th lady, 1st in her age category and meant she qualified for the GB Age-group team!
Which brings us to now, Lindsay is getting ready for the European Long Distances Championships Almere in Amsterdam, in September 2024 where she will be racing for the GB Age-group team and hoping to qualify for the World Championships in Pontevedra in 2025.
In preparation for her race in September, Lindsay completed the LakesMan Half on the 16th of June, in a brilliant time of 5 hours and 41 minutes!
Her performance throughout the event was nothing short of spectacular and she achieved 2nd in her age group and 19th overall.
Lindsay says, “I hit target on all disciplines and even out did myself on the swim with a massive PB, followed by a personal course PB on the bike.”
A huge congratulations Lindsay, we are so proud to sponsor and support you throughout your sporting journey.
With this event completed, she is already getting for her next race, Cleveland SteelMan which is at the end of July!
We are so excited to continue supporting Lindsay in her future challenges, confident that they will keep inspiring us and many others along the way.
