In the fast-paced world of window fabrication, an industry traditionally dominated by men, leadership isn’t just about giving orders; it’s about deep-rooted knowledge, empathy for the customer, and an unwavering eye for detail. At Glazerite, nobody embodies this more than Melanie Jacobs, our Senior Operations Manager at the Rixon site.

Mel’s story isn’t just a career path, it’s a 19-year masterclass in how understanding every facet of a business creates an indispensable leader.

From Administrator to Operations Powerhouse

Mel’s journey with Glazerite began nearly two decades ago. In 2007, she walked through the doors as a Customer Care Administrator. It was here, on the front lines of communication, that she learned the most vital lesson in manufacturing: the product doesn’t end when it leaves the factory; its life begins when it reaches the customer.

Her natural ability to solve problems and advocate for customers saw her rise through the ranks:

-Customer Care Manager: Leading the front-line response.

-Group Customer Care Manager: Overseeing service excellence across every Glazerite site.

By January 2025, the business recognised a unique opportunity. With nearly 20 years of experience across multiple departments, Mel possessed a ‘bird’s-eye view’ of the company that few others had. She was the natural choice for Senior Operations Manager, a role designed to bridge the gap between the factory floor and the final customer experience.

The Guardian of ‘No Fault Forward’

In her current role, Mel is the heartbeat of the Rixon site. She works side-by-side with the production team, tackling day-to-day hurdles and ensuring that targets aren’t just met, but exceeded with excellence.

Central to her mission is Glazerite’s No-Fault-Forward (NFF) policy. This culture of accountability means that at every single station in the factory, the team is responsible for:

-Inspecting the product they receive.

-Feeling the quality with their own hands.

-Sending it back immediately if it isn’t perfect.

“We won’t let a product leave the factory if we aren’t happy with it,” Mel explains.

By catching mistakes at the source rather than the end of the line, Mel helps the team rectify issues instantly. This culture of ‘eyes on, hands on’ is supported by a final Quality Control check, ensuring that by the time a window reaches an installer, it is flawless.

A Different Perspective in a Male-Dominated Field

Manufacturing and operations have long been seen as ‘male’ spaces, but Mel’s rise proves that the best leaders are defined by their expertise and results, not gender.

Mel brings a unique perspective to the Rixon site. Her background in customer care means she views every frame through the eyes of the homeowner. When a technical issue arises on the floor, she doesn’t just see a mechanical glitch, she sees a potential delay for a customer or an extra hour of work for an installer. This holistic approach has made her an integral ‘connector’ between the factory staff and the customer care teams.

The Glazerite Gold Standard

Mel summarises the Glazerite mission with a clarity that only someone who has lived the brand for 19 years can:

“We look to provide the best quality product at the best price and the best available lead time with the best customer care and service.”

Melanie Jacobs is more than just a manager, she is the guardian of the Glazerite promise. From her start as an administrator to her current role as a senior leader, she has proven that when you combine deep industry knowledge with a passion for quality, you don’t just fit into the frame of a business, you help build it.
