As installers face growing pressure to meet customer expectations, lead times have become an increasingly important consideration when choosing a fabricator. Jeff Dunn, Group Sales & Commercial Director at Glazerite UK Group, explains how product choice, manufacturing flexibility and effective planning can help installers keep projects moving.

For window and door installers, reliable lead times are essential to planning projects, managing customer expectations and organising installation schedules. As homeowners explore a wider choice of colours, styles and specifications, fabricators must balance these requirements with efficient production and dependable deliveries.

At Glazerite UK Group, this challenge has reinforced the importance of manufacturing flexibility and access to a comprehensive product portfolio. With both VEKA and Halo systems available, Glazerite can offer installer partners a range of PVC-U window and door solutions, providing additional options when particular specifications or timescales are important.

According to Jeff Dunn, Group Sales & Commercial Director, one of the key advantages of manufacturing both systems is the flexibility it creates around colour availability.

“Some colours are what we call ex-stock, which means they’re on the shelf at VEKA, and some are MTO, which is made to order,” Jeff explains. “By offering the full range of Halo and VEKA, it means that we’ve got access to almost every standard colour off the shelf,” This can make a meaningful difference when installers are working towards a specific installation date.

Jeff highlights circumstances where a colour requiring an extended ordering period in one system could be available through another profile in a considerably shorter timeframe. “That gives us an opportunity to switch a customer from one profile to another if their lead time is critical but the profile is not,” he explains.

The ability to discuss these alternatives gives installers greater flexibility when planning projects, helping them identify suitable products while taking availability into account.

Manufacturing capacity is another important consideration. Glazerite operates three manufacturing sites in Peterborough, Wellingborough and Bolton, with production organised to make effective use of the group’s expertise and resources. Peterborough specialises in Halo manufacturing, including System 10, Rustique, FlushSash and Timberweld. Wellingborough predominantly manufactures VEKA products while also providing additional Halo capacity, and Bolton focuses on VEKA production. This structure helps the business manage production requirements while maintaining alternative manufacturing capability across the group. Jeff explains: “What we’re always trying to do is make sure that we’ve got another site making those products in case anything happens at the premium site for that customer.”

Having backup capacity is particularly valuable when unexpected operational challenges arise, allowing the business to respond to equipment issues or other interruptions. “We have three large manufacturing centres that have got a backup plan within the group,” Jeff adds.

Alongside production, Glazerite’s established distribution network plays an important role in supporting installers nationwide. Products manufactured at Peterborough can be delivered directly to customers or transferred through the group’s wider operations, including Wellingborough and Bolton, to reach installers across England and Scotland. Coordinating manufacturing and logistics in this way helps Glazerite manage orders across different regions and provide customers with a consistent service.

Clear communication is equally important. By discussing specifications, colour availability and realistic delivery expectations early in the ordering process, fabricators can help installers make informed decisions and plan their workloads effectively. As demand for varied window styles and finishes continues to develop, lead-time management will remain a significant consideration for manufacturers.

For Glazerite, the combination of VEKA and Halo, supported by experienced teams, manufacturing resilience and nationwide distribution, provides the flexibility to respond to changing customer requirements.

Ultimately, meeting the challenge of shorter lead times comes down to understanding what installers need and using the available manufacturing resources to deliver the right products at the right time.
