Glazerite and Haffner at the cutting edge of success

We have undergone something of a transformation in recent years. With a new management team at the helm and a passion for continuous improvement across its operations, Darren Rhodes, Managing Director at our North West Division, explains why partnerships with the likes of leading machinery supplier Haffner play a central role in our drive for quality.

It's our aim to enable our installers to be best-in-class, and to achieve that, they need high-quality products. To deliver those, we need a committed team, leading profile, and the very best in machinery.

We've worked with Haffner since 2004 when we installed our first SBA machining centre at our Wellingborough site. Just a few years later, we became the first fabricator in the UK to invest in a Haffner SBA machining centre specifically tailored to manufacture vertical sliders.

Today, our East Division in Peterborough houses an SB14 cutting and prepping centre and a SMR-5 welder. Our Midlands Division in Wellingborough also has one SMR-5 welder, while our North West site is home to two SMR-5 welders. To add to our Haffner portfolio, and ensure we continue to deliver for our customers, we have just purchased a new SMR-5 welder, which will be installed at Glazerite East shortly.

Buying machinery from Haffner, which offers arguably the most comprehensive machine portfolio in the industry, demonstrates our ongoing commitment to our installers.

Corner weldingHaffner machines are efficient, innovative, and high-performing, and play a key role in helping us support our customers with increased output and improved productivity, while their accuracy in use enables us to reduce waste. What's more, the automated nature of their machinery means we can be flexible with our workforce and scale up or scale down our operations to meet workflow.

At our Peterborough site, where we manufacture our Halo and newly launched Deceuninck range, the fast and accurate abilities of our SMR-5 head inline welder has transformed our operations, with the asset capable of welding two frames simultaneously, speeding up setup and cycle times and making our operations much more efficient.

Haffner's exceptional team of in-house industry and technical experts underpins its next-generation machinery by offering proactive, added-value support for customers. Their consultancy-style approach and our ongoing relationship mean we can trust them to get to grips with our specific requirements today and further down the line. By understanding what we need now, as well as future ambitions, we know they will develop and install the fabrication setup we need to support our own customers.

Winners of Machinery Supplier of the Year at last year's G Awards, and finalists again this year, Haffner has made a name for themselves in the industry. Their phenomenal growth assures us we are moving forward with the support of an innovative supplier.

Haffner Managing Director, Matt Thomas, says: "We're proud of our 20-year relationship with Glazerite. During that time, both businesses have grown significantly, and, like Glazerite, we continue to invest in our business and our team. Our innovative, high-performing machines deliver high levels of automation throughout the fabrication process and provide Glazerite with the flexibility and consistency they demand to continue to support their extensive customer base. On a personal note, Glazerite are fantastic to deal with, honest, understanding, and full of good people."

To match our ambitions for growth and best support our installers, we are always looking for ways to optimise our operations and improve both our productivity and the quality of our output. Having a strong relationship with the like-minded Haffner puts us, and our installers, at the cutting edge.

Our 18th Pro-am golf day last week raised thousands for mental health support
We welcomed more than 100 customers and suppliers along to our annual Pro Am Golf Day last month, with generous guests raising an incredible £20,500 for mental health charity, Kelly’s Heroes. Our event, now in its 18th year, took place at the 18-hole championship course at Wellingborough Golf Club, which is set in the grounds of Harrowden Hall.  More than 24 teams participated, with guests later joining the golfers for an evening reception packed full of live music, dancing, a raffle and an auction. Winners on the day were Symphony Windows, with a team representing Kelly’s Heroes finishing in second place, and M3 Floodtec a close third. Meanwhile Adrian Barraclough of Quickslide won the ‘Nearest the Pin’ contest.   John Hewitt, founder of Kelly’s Heroes says:  “The passion for the charity and what we do is always strong at the Glazerite Golf Day, but to raise more than £20,000 this year is fantastic.  We rely on fundraising events such as these to be able to provide our much-needed services as we receive no public funding.   “The generosity of these events, donations and other fundraising activities means that we can continue to provide services such as our live chat ‘Listening Ear’ service. In fact the funds raised at last year’s Golf Day enabled us to expand the hours this service is available, and we’re hoping to expand it further following this year’s event." “Times are hard for many people, and it is imperative that Kelly’s Heroes can continue to play its part in supporting those in need. Within the last year alone, the charity has carried out 19 welfare checks and called five ambulances for people in crisis. We are literally saving lives, and it is all thanks to the support of those who generously support us at events like these.” Our Golf Day is a firm favourite for customers, suppliers and employees alike, with the PGA also remarking on the success of the two-day event, which sees PGA professionals compete followed by the customer event and party. Will Dunn, Tournament Director for PGA Midlands, says: “The Glazerite PRO-AM Trophy, which this year took place on Thursday 20th June, always attracts our best from all over the country. The event was followed on Friday 21st June by the more relaxed Glazerite customer and supplier day, which gives our Pro players the opportunity to join in with and play with a terrific bunch of people, sharing tips and having fun along the way. On behalf of the PGA, I’d like to say big thank you to both Glazerite and Wellingborough Golf Club.”     Rob Brearley, Group Managing Director adds: “We’d like to thank the PGA and Wellingborough Golf Club for hosting the golf and the party, as well as all those who took part and helped us to raise an incredible amount for such an important charity. Our main event sponsors this year included Morley Blinds, DoorCo and Deceuninck, as well as Haffner, who generously topped up the initial total to take us over the £20,000 mark. Auction prizes and sponsorship were also provided by Symphony Windows, VEKA, Residence Collection, Business Micros, Avantis, Window Ware, CEN Solutions, Clearview, Brisant, Georgian Bar Company, Turner Windows, K2 Aluminium, Northumberland Glass and D&M Windows."   “Our Golf Day is a much anticipated and very much enjoyed fixture in the calendar, and we really appreciate all those who supported it and took part. The feedback we get after the day is always positive, with everyone agreeing that this year was the best yet! We’re already on countdown to next year’s event.”

Proud to sponsor sporting talent alongside Taylors Joinery & Plastics
We’re thrilled to share the amazing journey of Lindsay-Anne Straughton, who recently completed the LakesMan Half with remarkable success. Alongside Taylors Joinery & Plastics, we are proud to sponsor her sporting journey and we wish Lindsay all the best as she continues to achieve success!   Lindsay began running in 2014 when a friend asked her to do an obstacle race with her; and what began as a goal of 10k, quickly become a half marathon which then led to her completing the London Marathon in 2016. Her triathlon journey began in 2018 when she entered the LakesMan Half – at this point she had never done a triathlon, never swam in open water and didn’t even own a road bike!  Lindsay says, “Needless to say, it did not go well! I was confident that I could swim the distance, ride the distance and run the distance… what I hadn’t realised was how much preparation goes into the ‘other stuff’." She completed the swim and bike section in 5 hours 10 minutes, and then was sadly told that she had missed the cut off time to start the running section – so, unfortunately, her race was over.   But Lindsay didn’t give up, in fact she re-entered for the 2020 race (which soon got postponed until 2021 because of the covid-19 lockdown).  However, during this time she worked on all the obstacles she had fought in her first race – she taught herself to swim front crawl; she spent the entire summer swimming in local lakes; and she even signed up with a qualified triathlon coach who helped her with training and nutrition. Lindsay went on to complete the triathlon in an incredible 6 hours and 3 minutes!   In 2022, she then went onto to complete her first long distance triathlon, the LakesMan Full (which is the same distance as an IronMan), where she finished 6th lady, 1st in her age category and meant she qualified for the GB Age-group team! Which brings us to now, Lindsay is getting ready for the European Long Distances Championships Almere in Amsterdam, in September 2024 where she will be racing for the GB Age-group team and hoping to qualify for the World Championships in Pontevedra in 2025.   In preparation for her race in September, Lindsay completed the LakesMan Half on the 16th of June, in a brilliant time of 5 hours and 41 minutes!  Her performance throughout the event was nothing short of spectacular and she achieved 2nd in her age group and 19th overall. Lindsay says, “I hit target on all disciplines and even out did myself on the swim with a massive PB, followed by a personal course PB on the bike.” A huge congratulations Lindsay, we are so proud to sponsor and support you throughout your sporting journey.     With this event completed, she is already getting for her next race, Cleveland SteelMan which is at the end of July! We are so excited to continue supporting Lindsay in her future challenges, confident that they will keep inspiring us and many others along the way. If you’re interested in following her journey, give her profile a follow - @triathlon_lin3ie
